Midrash tells us that before birth an angel taps our mouth so we forget all the Torah our souls know. This 8 session course in Biblical Hebrew hopes to recover your soul’s Biblical Hebrew and give a systematic framework to enable you to understand those phrases you know by ear from Jewish liturgy and songs without knowing the grammar behind them. We will look at all noun forms and all but the very unusual verb forms, using biblical verses and quotes from the siddur to illustrate the rules and structures we learn in class.
Alef-bet required, no other or skills needed.
This class will take place in-person in central Edinburgh.
26, 27, 28, 29 June, 1.30 – 3.00pm

Rachel Montagu studied at Leo Baeck College, Machon Pardes and Heythrop College. Most of her recent teaching has been Biblical Hebrew language, year-round at City Lit, and a summer school at Sarum College. She really enjoys seeing students find themselves able to read Hebrew texts independently rather than rely on translations. She volunteers in the archives of the Spanish and Portuguese Sephardi Community of London.
