Abraham and Sarah: What Made Them So Special, and What, if Anything, are We Supposed to Do About It?
Abraham and Sarah are, famously, the first mother and father of the Jewish people. What, exactly, did they do to earn that role? Is the position basically biological, or is there a moral/ethical legacy they have handed down to us and, if so, what is it, and is it still relevant? With Rabbi Shimon Felix, we will look at the Biblical text, classical commentaries, and Rabbinic Midrashim to try and get some answers. Knowledge of the alef-bet is required for this class, no other experience needed.
